  1. Jackson says:

As a member of a CANA church…I presume that this means that ABC doesn’t recognize me as Anglican? Hmmm….

  2. Henry Troup says:

Would you say the same if you lived in New Hampshire?

  3. Ross says:

Well, it least the ABC is being somewhat evenhanded with his snubs…

  4. Henry Troup says:

I read on Ship of Fools that Robinson Cavalcanti is also not invited.

  5. Jackson says:

If I was Akinola I wouldn’t go if one of my bishops is not invited.

    Is this shunning?
Shunning +Minns and +Calvicanti sends the wrong message.
Is the message to be that Canterbury will join TEc?
Shall ++Akinola, ++Orombi, ++Gomez, and the rest proceed to form their own global community now and forget Canterbury?
This is a serious decision, with grave consequences.

    For # 4; Henry Troupe:
“I read on Ship of Fools that Robinson Cavalcanti is also not invited.”
Can you give a more complete source for this comment? Web address?

  8. Piedmont says:

While the non-invitation of Robinson and Minns is likely to provoke debate, particularly in the United States and Africa, Livesey said it was possible that Robinson, at least, could be allowed to come as a “guest” of the conference — a minor concession that might temper criticism.

No, not at all. The polity of the Anglican Communion doesn’t allow for such nonsense. Robinson has no business being anywhere near Lambeth.

  9. Henry Troup says:

#7 – Andrew Carey (aka Spawn) made the remark here. He didn’t quote a source, however, he’s a well-connected journalist.

  10. Henry Troup says:

    #8 – I presume you’re being sarcastic; otherwise I’d cite Lambeth 1998 I.10 on “listening”.

  11. MJD_NV says:

Why, this is utterly brilliant – bets on how many American bishops will now refuse to go to Lambeth! And how long it will be until the first one is made in a public statement. Heck, now if Kathy goes, she’ll tick off all her liberal support – and if she doesn’t, she’ll please the conservatives. Talk about a no-win. And Rowan only has to be the bad guy once! Give the man credit – he’s good!

  12. Ross says:

    #11:

But note that according to ++Akinola’s response, Nigeria may also be boycotting Lambeth. A Lambeth without either TEC or the Nigerian Church might well be a quieter place, but it’s not likely to accomplish anything towards resolving the current mess.

  13. Chris Taylor says:

Not so fast MJD_NV, how many Nigerian bishops do you think will be at Lambeth ’08? ++Abuja seems to indicate that none of them will be there. This may be a very small gathering indeed. I wonder if there will be another (or even multiple other), alternative Anglican gathering(s) somewhere else. I don’t think this gambit by the ABC will work and we may be witnessing the end of a global communion based on Canterbury.
